Gays and lesbians are people too. Only, I wouldn't have a clue who was and wasn't gay or straight; sex lives should be kept behind closed doors where they belong between the people who it affects most, and that ain't the general public. Why the heck should I be interested? It's how a person treats ~me~ that counts; if they are nice, they're worth getting to know. If not - and I include 'in your face' attitudes in this - either way - then I don't bother with them.

If you think of homosexuality as a sin, and this is shaping your ideas, then remember God loves the sinner, but not the sin!

How are you homophobic.... when your last question claimed that you kissed another man! I love homophobes, because I think they are so funny to watch, because they are the most paranoid people EVER!!! I used to be one of them, but that's only cause I was gay myself.... Open your eyes a little... and don't let this world scare you... WE ARE ALL JUST ANIMALS!!!

If it upsets you so much steer clear of them, I really do think you are being over reacting they don't go around attacking you.Homosexuals I have met along the road of life, like a laugh and a joke have all been
very pleasant and well behaved . After all if they know you are straight(ie Heterosexual) they repect that. After all it really does depend on you sexual preference.Have you ever tried talking to a homosexual ? as I said earlier they do not bite and they certainly won't attack you.Conversation may help you over your Phobia.

So am I! I can't help it!

One thing that helped me a bit was the fact that I watched something on TV , it was fiction, but it made me realise how sad people who torment gay (or black or anything else) people are. I don't like homosexuality but that doesn't mean I would torment/assault people because of that. A boy in this fictitious drama came out as gay and was bullied for it and by his friends. It made me really angry. Then watch something like Brokeback Mountain or the story about that student something Shepherd, when you come across soemthing like that it amkes you really angry, the idea that people treat other people like that.

Talking to gay people didn't help me, I knew of 2 gay mena nd 2 lesbian women, the women were moody, never spoke, fine by me. Th gay men were stereotypically gossipy troublemakers, very bitchy, I know not all gay people are like that but I find it unnatural, just as they find straight people strange.

I still am, I can't help that, but when you become aware what people go through, how hard it is for them to live it puts things into perspective, but I am allowed to disagree with it, just like I can disagree with black rappers with their guns and women, it doesn't mean I am racist, I just don't like it. It depends on what you mean by homophobic, if you actually physically or verbally abuse gay people taht is wrong but if you just don't like it that is fine. I have heard many gay people say things like straight people are sick etc, each to their own.

Analyze what exactly is your hangup with gays. Is it religious? Cultural? Does it have to do with what important people in your life have said about gays? Do you fear gays?
When you pinpoint your hangup (and there may be quite a few) then you can go from there to learn how to see gays as a normal part of the rest of the human race.

You have already taken the first step by recognizing the condition. One thing you might do is get to know some; you will find out that, except for their sexual preferences, they are just like anybody else.

Open your mind to justice, equality, love and tolerance.

Do not permit anti-LGBT "jokes" to be told in your presence.

Join PFLAG.

If you go to a church, protest any anti-LGBT bigotry or prejudice.

I'm sure the other users here will have additional suggestions, but mine are a good start.
Good luck!
