I am trying to build a portfolio for my customer service record, and I have heard a customer testimonial would be very helpful piece of documentation to have.

How do I go about asking my customer for a testimonial? Do I directly ask or do I provide something in return?

First, make sure the cusomter is a satisfied one. Usually if someone is happy with a service they are more than willing to give a testimonial. Some people may not want their full names used and that should be respected. Other people are willing to give out full names, phone numbers etc. in case a future customer wants to call.

I would just ask for it. You don't need to offer anything in return bacause you have already given great service!

Find out how your services can benefit them if they give you a testimonial. I run a seasoning and condiment company, I offer free trial packs in addition to their order if they write a testimonial. See if you can offer a one time discounted service, or a free promotional item in exchange for their testimony. PPL love those promotional items.

Either provide them with a simple sheet that has info on them ask maybe one question ask if they could in there own words explain why they want to do business with you or what is there thoughts or oppions .
or maybe pick a few of your good customers and simply ask if they'd take a moment to say a few works or answer some questions.
good luck
