The market has changed and the dealers are willing to negotiate these days. Most dealers have quite a few bikes on the floor. Approach it like you would a car deal and if they aren't willing to work with you, go to another dealer.

ryder has this on lock. 9x's out of 10, extremely few dealers will go under msrp. now some of them will only so that they can sell their stock of '06 models. where u buy could have a very big impact like ryder said. in some area's of ca, i've heard of some dealers actually going OVER msrp by 2 or 3k before the 07's were even starting to be built.
now that the 07's are out, if u find a dealer that has some 06's left, u just might be able to squeak a good deal out...especially if u get certain goodies before u would pick up the bike if u are willing to take a year older model than new.
u should be aware that the '07's are coming from the moco in a very lean condition that was mandated by the epa. if u do get an '07, be sure to advise the dealer to slap the complete stage1 on it before u even pick it up. the epa has made the moco turn the jets so lean, these bikes run extremely hot.

Little 'wiggle room'. Most dealers have territorial advantages. What that does for us is it allows some play, but not much. Motorcycles are not a 'necessity' as a car or truck is considered.
The other problem with H-D dealer is that IF you don't live in the area (state), they will tell you, 'we service our local bikers first and don't sell to out of state people.
My brother bought his in El Paso for $3,500 less then in his state of residence. The catch was that our sister lives there, so her address was used. She purchased the scoot (with brothers funds) then did a title transfer.
We all know that the Japanese sleights are cheaper, but they don't hold the resale value. Used H-Ds are almost as expensive as a new bike. And with the two(2) year factory warranty, way someone would pay so much for a 'run of the mill' used H-D still blows my mind. If it were a limited production or a CVO, then maybe, but that's my thought.
And before someone has a s-it-fit about my comments............. I own six H-Ds.

Yes, you negotiate the price, but you have to take into account that the market is a sellers market, and there isn't much you will be to negotiate. My co-worker just bought a Harley, and he got the price down about $1000, but got oil and filter changes for life, and some riding gear such as a helmet and gloves, for free.

I live in an area of NE Texas that has 2 H-D dealerships within 35 miles of each other. One will deal to a certain extent. The other, however, doesn't deal at all.

always negotiate and walk out if you don't like what he is saying there is always room do drop or get free gear
