The first day of my last period was December 21, 2006
The doctor has given me a due date of September 28, 2007
From reading books and searching the net, I have learned that to figure out how many weeks you are you start counting from the first day of your last period.....so that makes me nine weeks today. However....my doctor insists that I am only 6 weeks along. I dont get it! He is still giving me the same due date, but I am assuming he is referring to date of conception, which if he is he is still wrong, because it would be 7 weeks by now. He has not done an ultrasound or anything, all he has done to figure out these dates is count from the dates i gave him.....am i crazy or is he?

I am an obgyn nurse...doctors subtract 2 weeks from the total from the last day of your period because most women ovulate at about 14 days or two weeks after their last period which is prime fertility. He subtracted 3 weeks which is just to be on the cautious side...but basically take december 21...add 2 weeks...that's probably when you concieved...then add the 40 weeks...I would guess he's about a week off!
Most women ovulate at 10-16 days after their period..that's prime fertility...that's when most women concieve.
So you're both kind of right! LOL!
Good luck!
Also...I don't think in my 14 years of being a nurse or nursing student I have ever had a patient deliver on their due date! LOL! So it's just a guesstimate!

You calculate by the first day of your last period. Yours was Dec21, 06. You would subtract 3 months, which would give you September 21, 2007. Then, you add 7 days, which would give you September 28, 2007. This adds up to 40 weeks of pregnancy. Pregnancy counts from the first date of your last period, so would be 9 weeks tomorrow. Hope that helps. A lot of doctors will not do an ultrasound until 18-20 weeks unless there is a problem.

Typically you are most fertile on the first day of your last period but every women is different. You can't just go by the books. That is just said for you to estimate yourself how far along you are. Listen to your doctor on this one. Your first ultrasound will do measurements and estimate how far along you are, and then you'll know better. I know it's frustrating being less pregnant than you thought, but bite the bullet and take the lesser date.
See I did the same thing you did and went with myown because I argued with my doc. Now by my estimate I am 3 weeks overdue and hating every second I never listened to him (my doctor). I was so excited for my due date and now I am realizing more and more how he was right from the beginning.
My doctors due date is this Saturday by the way. Yeay

You may be measuring smaller. Plus, the due date the dr gave you is just an estimate. With my son, I always measured smaller than my due date and he came 2 weeks late. So now I would go by what the dr says or more importnantly, the ultrasound when you get one done. Normally the dr will order one at 20weeks. After that, you will have a bit of an idea of when you are due since its a view of the baby.

Sept. 28th is your due date.. As far as how far along you are... 9 weeks... I don't know why he would say that though... because you are right about the date of conception... I would ask him about his way of thinking so maybe you can get a better understanding of where he is coming from.. but I can tell you that early on in my pregnancy I was 8 weeks based on my lmp, but when he measured my uterus, it was off by 3 weeks, so that could be what is going on.. Just wait until the ultrasound... only then will you know for sure..

At this stage it's just a guess as to when you are due. When you have your first scan they will be able to give you a more accuate estimated due date.
There can be differences in the due dates given to you, in my experience when I found out I was pregnant my doctor told me she thought I was about 8 weeks, she sent me for a scan the next day and that said I was 12 weeks.

as long as you know when your first day of your last period was you should have no problem with getting a due date. there's due date calulators online you can use by putting in your first day of your last period. i wouldn't worry about it too much, after the ultrasound they'll have a better idea of how far along you are. congratulations!

there are many ways to tell your due date. not only with the period. Ask him for an ultrasound to be sure of the date.

Well, you're right. You are just starting your 9th week. You might want to spend the next few weeks tracking down a new ob/gyn!!
