Do you think a woman has the right to decide to abort a baby and why? And I'm interested in your age also. Thank you. I'm not interested in right/wrong, just honest answers.

Many people say that an abortion is only right if a woman is raped, but because the woman is raped, is that the fault of the unborn child? How do we reconcile that? What makes it ok?

I'm 32. No one has the "right" to kill another innocent human being, and that is exactly what every single abortion does. It's not complicated. By the time most women know they are pregnant (3 weeks after conception), their baby's heart is already beating. Virtually no surgical abortions are committed before 6-7 weeks, at which point the baby has recordable brainw waves and tiny fingers. For more information, see:

I think abortion is wrong on many levels.

First, I feel that the baby is a human at conception, regardless of the laws decision on fetuses. I forget if it's in China or Japan, or some Asian country, but your birthdate is the date of conception

Second, abortion sends the wrong message to our society about virtous decisions. I don't have any real stats, but all the abortions that I personally know of (about a dozen) were all what I call birthcontrol abortions. In other words, the mother just didn't want the baby because it was an unplanned pregnancyt. We should be teaching the positives of abstinence and monogamy for unwed individuals and birth control only after marriage, instead of providing outs for irresponsible people who got pregnant (and I mean the mother and father). Children are a great responsibility and a blessing. Many families are on waiting list to adopt children.

I know there's not an easy solution to the problems in our society, but a great start would be if we start with taking responsibilities for our own actions instead of blaming someone else (like an unborn child that we don't want).

I'm 32.

Unless it's your baby, I think you give up the right to vote on the issue if you are male.

I also believe that you give up the right to vote on this issue if you have not had your first period yet, or have gone through menopause.

If you are a woman of childbearing age, even if you're under 18, then you get to vote on this. I think the results would be a little more realistic this way. Too bad I live in a fantasy world where things are fair.

Personally, I'm against it - I have known friends who've had abortions, and they never get over it, nor would I expect them to. But on the other hand, I don't think it's the state or country's right to put up laws about it. I think it's the doctor's responsibility to do what is best for his/her patient in all situations, and that law should not prohibit a doctor from doing that job.

There are a lot of grey areas around abortion. What about cases of rape or incest, or where the health of the mother and/or baby are threatened? You would have to be a complete moron and psychopath to draw a line there when you know nothing about each individual case. So that's why I say it should be up to the women and their doctors to decide this. The last thing we need is to tie up our legislators with issues that will never be solved.

i think abortion is morally wrong, if you've ever saw what an abortion looks like you would never consider doing it. \

whether you want to call it a fetus or an unborn child, it is still a life and has the right to live. I think if you can open your legs to get pregnant, you can open them back up nine months later to push that baby out. The only time when I could understand a woman getting an abortion is if they were raped. Everyone else knows the chance of getting pregnant from sex, it only takes one time and if you get pregnant, you should have your baby.

I'm 29 and I think a women does have the right to decide to abort a fetus. It's a very personal decision that a woman must make while weighing out all of the circumstances surrounding the situation.
Do I think people who use it as a form of birth control and have multiple abortions are right? No. That's just ignorant. But I do believe that if someone finds themselves unable to properly take care of a child once it's born they need to weigh the options and make the best decision.

I think that a woman should NOT have the right unless it's a case of rape. Abortion is no different than murder! And if abortion becomes so socially acceptable, people would get reckelss and sleep with people left and right, knowing that there's always an easy way out.

If I were not so concerned about world population I could subscribe to the so called 'prolife' movement. But, lets get real. We have way too many babies being born now. If we did not have legal abortion here and around the world, the population multiples would be worse than they are now. I'm sure I will get some thumbs down on this comment, but we have to limit population growth to keep the world livable ....for a little longer. So in my mind, let the woman choose.

But now I will comment from a democratic perspective: I don't care if this issue goes the other way. We should not run our country based on this issue. If its banned, its OK with me. Lets not let this continue be the defining political issue of our time. We have bigger fish to fry.

BTW, I do believe in God and would not fit into the box of 'atheist'.

Ok I'm a 28 year old single mother ....and as far as your question, i think the woman has a right to do what she thinks is best. And the old "why not protect yourself" has some face value, but if the girl decides it is for the best in her situation, i dont think it is wrong...lots of people are so quick to criticize and dont look into the situation...i struggle with my children and if I was in the predicament that i get pregnant, by sheer stupidness on my behalf, and i consider abortion then its my choice, if i thought it was for the best for me, then why would i care what anyone thinks?!?!?!?!

I am 19 closer to turning 20. I believe that a woman has the right to chose. I personally would never choose to have an abortion, but that is just my personal choice. That is also why I am choosing to abstain from sex until I am ready to deal with the consequences (remember consequences can be good also! :) )There are reasons I find understandable, although, as to why one would have an abortion, so I am not going to condone someone for choosing not to go through with a pregnancy. Critisize me if you will, but that is my personal belief.

I'm 100% pro-choice. I agree that a woman -- and ONLY a woman -- has the right to decide what to do with her body.

And anyone who says, "I'm against it, except in cases of rape, incest, etc" is pro-choice. This is like someone saying, "I don't eat animals, except for fish". Abortion is NOT a black-and-white, this-or-that issue, but that aspect of it is. You can't have it both ways.

Any one who uses religion as justification for their opposing it is out of line, because there are exactly 0 references to abortion in the Christian bible, and the same number within the Koran, to my understanding.

I'm 36 years old.
