Yes... you'll probably make it...I am an obgyn nurse...and first off...you need to ask your doctor when you are in the office...it creates a good relationship if you can be totally informed by your doctor. Most women start softening up about 4-5 days before. If you are long...that means that the opening is enlongating so that the baby will turn and get ready...it's all in the muscles that enlongate it...the softening means that you're not yet dialated which most women start 2-3 days before...so you'll be close to your due date...maybe a bit early...say a week from now or so? So..be ready! LOL! Right now if you were induced with say Pitocin...you would go really fast! Some women at the hospital I work with in your situation like to be induced like on the weekends so family can be present without having it a last minute rush! So you're ready...in a few days you'll start dialating a bit...and then you'll get a little mucus discharge soon here...so I would guess the 27th or 28th!

Congratulations!

PM me if you have any questions...believe me...13 years in nursing...I"ve heard it all! LOL!

The softer your cervix gets the better, it starts moving and pulling off to the sides the closer you get to giving birth. I'm not sure about the "long" part, it could mean that it hasn't started moving away yet, but you are getting close. Probably means a little while longer! Also, remember that MANY women do not give birth on their due date.. because most due dates are wrong! Technically your baby will only be 38 weeks when you give birth, because for some reason we start counting 2 weeks before our babies are even conceived! So, a week or so late isn't anything to worry about! Good luck and congrats!

Your cervix softens then efaces when it thins out. You are probably right on schedule. It needs to soften to dialate. Don't rush, this is your first baby. I've had friends that were 5 cm dialtated for 3 weeks. It all depends on when the baby is ready to come out.
