It seems like people who are creative, dynamic thinkers in this country--regardless of whether they are rich or poor--have left-leaning political views. Why is this?

Because its easy to be a conservative. To be a conservative means to be a follower. To pretend that doing what everyone else is doing is the best way to live your life. Cons dont have to think for themselves, others do it for them.

This is a troll question asked by a conservative, isn't it? Because "all" is a whole lot. If only 1 famous thinker is not Liberal, the assumption behind the question is false -- which it is, of course, because there have been scientists, philosophers, artists and intellectuals who were NOT liberal. The famous philosopher Heidigger, for example, became a Nazi in the 1930s. Ayn Rand was a famous artist -- I think it's pushing the truth to call her an "intellectual" -- and she was a far rightwing individualist and anti-liberal. The famous poet Ezra Pound became a fascist and made scurrilous radio broadcasts for Mussolini. T.S. Eliot was anti-democratic and anti-Semitic. So in fact, it's not the truth to say that "all" famous thinkers "tend to be" liberal, although some may. I think there's also a grammatical and logical conflict between "all" and "tend to be." If "all" members of X group "tend to be" such and such a way, then the implication is some of them actually aren't that way, right? -- democratic socialist / not famous, at least not yet

The term "liberal" has had a meaning change with the right wing moral majority defining it. Liberals are most often patriotic and not cowards and ARE taxpayers. Usually those called "liberals" do not just go along with whatever false scenario politicians assert. They see the big picture and ascertain what is incorrect, untrue or just plain wrong. Most Americans are liberal on some issues and conservative on others. Since the Bush Administration, when you don't agree with Bush, you are labeled a "liberal

It seems to have a lot to do with what side of the brain is dominate. If you'd notice, most artists are left handed as well. One side of the brain controls logic and the other emotions. In a liberal, the side of the brain that controls emotion is dominate. In a conservative, the logic side of the brain is dominate.
This isn't bashing either side. It's just the reason we have liberals and conservatives. It's brain physiology.

they don't live in the real world. just like any other liberal, they're fine giving up other people's money, and even a little of their own, on occasion. most have never had a real job a day in their lives, and don't plan to get one any time soon

Because they don't live in worlds dominated by reality. Theirs are worlds of fantasy (artists) and theory (academics).
