it will cut the pain 100% depending on how much is given.

If the epidural is working properly, then it won't hurt at all. As you get ready to give birth, they usually turn it down, so you can push. It hurts some then, but not as badly as if you had nothing. How much it hurts depends on the woman.

My epidural didn't work properly. It worked fine for a couple of hours, and then conked out, and they weren't able to get it working again. The pain was maybe an 8. (A 10 being unbearable.)

When I had my epidural, it didn't take completely on the right side. I could still feel my contractions, but there wasn't any pain. It was weird. I would feel a slight twinge on the right side, but no actual sharp, stabbing pain or anything like that. I was 100% numb on the left side. Couldn't feel a thing. Couldn't even tell that my hubby was playing with my feet and rubbing my legs. Strange feeling!!!

If you're worried about pain...then the epidural would be the way to go!!

As far as the contractions, for me it was 100% pain free after the epidural. When it came time to push, I felt some pressure, but not pain.

But everyone is different. Women experience different levels of pain relief from an epi because sometimes it doesn't "take" like other times. Also, sometimes it "takes" for half of your body but the other half still has pain.
There's no way to tell what your experience with it will be. . .

It is supposed to numb the pain. You are still supposed to feel some pressure so in the instance of a delivery you still know when you are having a contraction and know when to push. There are some complications associated with it and when I had it on my last child it hurt more when they were giving it to me. Then after a short period of time when I had the contractions I could feel a slight pressure but no real pain.

I did'nt feel anything. (Honest) I was just glad to get it after only 45 mins. of pain. But I still feel a weird pull, kinda numb feeling in that goes all the way up between my shoulders when i do alot of yard work from the epidural.

I thank the lord for the epidural. After you get it all you feel is pressure. No actual pain. I was petrified of it at first but once I got it done I was happy go lucky.

Epidural for childbirth or back pain. I had both, for childbirth, I still screamed but was ready to do it again after I held her. For back pain it worked for about 24 hours. I had one every month for 3 months and then had surgery (which was much more effective!!:)

I just felt some pressure in my knee (the operated part), but no pain at all. The pain came later in my spine, and it lasted for a few months: I felt like I was 70 years old!

I had to get it twice..the first time only half of me was numb...but they re-did it and and it worked great...I could feel the urge to push but no pain...You'll be fine...I was so afraid of getting epidural I thought that would be horrible...but that was fine too...there is so much going on...it isn't something you really have to worry about...
