How sad would it be to not make the playoffs in that horrible conference even with the injuries.

The way they are playing, I don't think they will make it either.

If they don't, it will be because of the injuries. The top 4 central teams will all be making it, which leaves only 4 spots left, two of which will be occupied by the league leaders.
I doubt Miami could catch Washington, so that leaves 2 spots to earn. Orlando and the Nets are both on the decline, but Orlando can almost certainly turn it around. I think Orlando will finish ahead of Miami by the end of the season, ESPECIALLY if they can manage to aquire VC by the end of today.
So that means the Heat have to beat out the Nets and New York. The Nets are done, Kidd and VC might be gone, so they're out of the question. But what about the Knicks? They've been wildly inconsistent, but they have the potential to be a big upsetter. I'm going out on a limb and saying the ONLY way to the Heat get into the playoffs is to beat out the Orlando Magic head to head.
That's a tall order without Dwayne Wade and Jason Williams not 100% yet. I think it will have to be Jason Kapono who fills most of the scoring void for the Heat, but he's not enough.

The Heat won't make it, because the Knicks are going to the playoffs and will beat them out for that last spot, the Knicks can still easily get the 7th or 8th spot. And the Heat shouldn't have even won the championship last year anyway. The refs gave it to them in the last three games. The Heat are way overrated.

they can still beat the weak pistons
going to be great when they get the 8 seed and knock the pistons out of the playoffs

Their best players got hurt shaq and wade were mostly the reason why they won last year

After Wade got hurt for six wks. I don't think they will make it. Shaq and Mourning won't be enough.
