Hi, I am 38 years old and expecting my first baby May 1.
I am in my 31st week and my blood pressure lately has risen
to about 145 over something, whereas it used to be about 120 over something. I have checked it a few times and its always 145 now.

Has anyone else had this happen? Do you think I will get preeclampsia or PIH now? How worried should I be?
I am seeing my OB on Monday.

Don't worry; this is normal. There is about 1/3 additional blood coursing through your veins leading up to delivery when you're pregnant. This extra supply nourishes the baby, gives you that 'glow' and feeds your nails and hair. Enjoy it.

After you have the baby, your blood supply will go back to normal. Your blood pressure will, too.

If you'd like to keep your blood pressure on the low side, though, avoid all processed foods, eat lots of slow-cooked whole grains (like oatmeal), play lots of soothing classical music, eat no salt, and knit or crochet after exercising at least one hour per day.

Congratulations on your new little one!

Try to lay down more, rest. PIH, preeclampsia, toxemia...all the same thing. I had PIH. Its more common in first pregnancies. My BP was about 145/80 around my 32nd week, when I was diagnosed. Since you're seeing the OB on Monday, I would jsut try to rest until then. Best of luck.

I had high bllod pressure towards the end of my first pregnancy. My OB had to put me on a B/P med because the high blood pressure was causing terrible headaches. I was induced at 37 weeks due to high blood pressure that couldn't be controlled by meds. I never developed pre-eclampsia though. Good luck to you.
