windows will not defrag with less than 15 % of its disk space free. You will need to either delete files or remove them to another storage media, such as CD/DVD, another hard drive or flash memory. Once enough files are removed to make the disk at least 15% free, you will be able to defrag the disk. The thing you will need to do is add another disk because you are out of room anyway,

I have the same problem also, so I'll wait to see how it's answered correctly. As for me, I have two hard drives; "Drive C" is 5 gigs and "drive D" is 100 gigs. I can defrag drive "C" and I do so regularly, but I can't defrag drive D. Thanks for the question. I'm in there with ya.

- GOLDEN rule of Hard Drives = ALWAYS have at least 25% free-space. -

Delete or transfer some files to another hard-drive, get it to 75% full or less and then try the defrag again. Good luck. :o)

scandisk your computer first that should get rid of the errors on the computer so you can defrag, if that doesn't work get an usb storage unit and put information on that. What can you do without??? What do you want to save ???? Also check out these links.

Find some things to delete like pics you no longer need, videos are very big. Old programs you no longer use. It's housekeeping time. Once you free up about 20%, you should be good to go.
Hope this helps,
Scotty

it's not defragging because there are errors on your hard drive. run scandisk to remove the errors.

click on my computer icon on your desktop > right click drive c: icon and click on properties. in there click on scandisk.

if you have files on your hard drive you don't use anymore but don't want to delete you can zip them into archives using http://www.7-zip.org/ or http://www.winzip.com/ this will save you tons of room on your computer. text files compress the most. everything else will fall of gracefully
