i would like to upgrade my memory on my Vaio and I would like to use just One 1gb card rather than Two 512mb cards. Can this be done on a Sony Vaio? Would it be any cause of concern to use Two 512mbs? From the info. I got my pc has to slots available for upgrade and it seems to tell me to use Two 512mbs. Is a One 1gb compatible with my system and which is the best brand to use? Thanks

How much memory a computer will support is all based on the particular model. The max supported would come in the users manual.

Here is a good site for looking up what type of memory and how much memory your system will support; http://www.crucial.com

As far as memory brands go, I suggest Crucial, Kingston and PNY for your average consumer.

My personal favorites are Corsair and OCZ but they are a little pricier.

This model will only accept up to a 512mb size module in each memory slot, so unfortunately a 1GB module will not work. Also make sure you purchase PC2100 modules that are guaranteed to work in your Sony as generic modules may give you problems.

I recommend Kingston memory as they make system-specific memory for your machine, made to Sony's specs.

that fairly relies upon on one concern . . . are you going to function extra reminiscence later? in case you in simple terms ever plan to have the a million gig, get the two 512 sticks. it's going to be extra decrease priced, AND if one comes to a decision to provide up working, you're no longer completely screwed. yet, in case you intend to function extra reminiscence later, and improve to 2 gig, flow forward and purchase the a million gig stick for now. shop you from having to purchase 2 a million gig sticks later and abandoning 2 completely reliable 512's.
