Will it remove any important files that I have?
I keep on getting a pop up saying that I need to clean my registry, so I mind as well do it.
Anyone recommend a free registry cleaner?

You need a registry cleaner BUT NEVER download the one that is in the pop up! That is a Trojan, and you will be sorry. Get a free one, Lexun Reg Scrub XP at www.majorgeeks.com

Whatever you do, do not use Winfixer or Windows Anti Virus 2006. Wikipedia: There are several ways in which WinFixer can infect a computer. Users using Internet Explorer are most susceptible, although users of other browsers, such as Firefox and Opera can also be infected, but are more resistant to the program. As well, it could stop your optical drive from working. ErrorSafe is not safe either
