Guinea pigs chew because they have teeth (and toe nails and finger nails need clipping--just the tips) that will continue to grow if they are not warn down. They need biting blocks that you can purchase at the pet store--or a stick from the back yard that is washed and microwaved for 10 to 15 seconds. Empty toilet paper rolls are good too.
As for food and water: you should always keep their bowl and bottles full. Never let them get empty. Check the food and water every day to make sure it is full. Make sure you put vitamin C in their water supply. This can also be purchased at a local pet store. Directions are on the bottle of vitamin C.
They make a high pitched whistle (like a bird) when they are excited. It can either be a warning call to other pigs that there is danger, or it can be a way of trying to get attention. Guinea pigs are very social animals. If you only have one-give it more attention--if not don't get another one. Some may suggest that, but I did that and they don't get along. I tried to get her a friend and all I have now is two cages with a pig in each.

I used to have a guinea pig that would screech every time he heard the refrigerator door open! He knew that was where the carrots and lettuces were, and he always wanted more. You might want to give it some chew sticks for gnawing on to keep the teeth ground down, because their teeth grow all of the time, like rabbits. But they will gnaw on anything to accomplish this. Guinea pigs are very vocal animals, and this is normal behavior.

Guinea pigs often chew to keep their front teeth worn down. They keep growing so they need file them down by chewing on hard objects. Do you have a wooden chew toy in there ore something?
Also, if you guinea pig is really getting that hungry that he is screaming, maybe you are not feeding him enough.

Yes, i think thats normal, both of our guinea pigs do that and then they stop after we give them a carrot or something. if your guinea pig does that all the time then i'd be worried. Good luck!

I would not think so...from my experience with them they are nervous animals..so if it is "screaming" and chewing on the bars I would think something is wrong. questions to answer... How long have you had it? Has it always acted this way or is it something new?

I don't think so, unless it is being starved. Try feeding it more often. He sounds like he needs to visit a vet. The sooner the better.
