i have a compaq presario 5000 with onboard audio...ess allegro. i have gone into the bios, and my bios is very simple...i have no options to enable or disable my onboard audio device, and i reset it to defaults. i still have no sound. i have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. i have updated drivers. nothing is working. i would love some advice. thanks!!

i've also checked my speakers...they work on my laptop and on another desktop, but not on this computer.

and i don't have a restore disk...this computer was given to me.

when i check my audio device in my device manager, it says everything is working ok...still no sound.

i have windows 98 installed on this computer, if that helps...i think i'm all out of detail. lol.

Hi Go to your computer control panel and check sound levels,reset if possible.If no responce ,try and find out your internal installation numbers and see what you can find out on net .Ask who ever you received the computer from what they know on history of computer.You could pull sound card and find one for sale or go to used parts shop if available in your area.Good Luck on your search.

try do a restore point to when the sound was working
it you have a control panel on your computer try there
