The most probable cause of bad breath in babies is dry mouth ( caused by sucking his fingers or anything else while sleeping , or by breathing through his mouth) , a dry mouth makes it easier for bacteria to grow and produce the bad smell.
so if your babie is breathing normally and doesn't suck his finger ,then his mouth will stay wet , preventing bacteria from multiplying and producing the bad smell.

I don't know either, but my 2-year-old daughter also does not have morning breath! I have often wondered the same thing! She of course has teeth and eats table food, but I also still nurse her. I wonder if that could have something to do with it???

It's a combination of not having teeth and breathing primarily through their noses. Morning breath can be caused by oral dryness (from mouthbreathing) but babies mostly only breathe through their noses. Which is why they don't know how to breathe if their noses are plugged up. Also no food gets stuck between their teeth, not having teeth.

Also, bad breath can be caused by poor dental hygiene, which a baby has yet to develop under the age of three months. At three months you can start brushing a baby's gums because gum disease can start at an early age, such as infancy.

The REAL answer is because simply, they drool. Odors are caused in the mouth when its dry and bacteria breeds. A constant moist mouth will result in a sweeter breath.

Morning breath is caused by gases in our stomach reacting with food, and the gas takes on the food's essence and rises into our mouth.
Babies don;t have food in their stomachs for their stomach juices to react with...they only have milk!

The reason ppl have bad breath is acid from bacteria in the mouth. bacteria is easily swallowed unless it's stuck on something, like plaque and mineralized plaque, called calculus. plaque doesn't last too long on mucous membranes like the cheeks or gums. what plaque does like are teeth and calculus. babies usually don't have teeth, so no teeth --> no plaque --> no bacteria (or less bacteria) --> no acid --> no bad breath

if you have a baby, make sure you don't bottle feed him/her at night with juice, milk, or anything else with sugars. it's one of the worse things you can do for a baby. use water.

because they don't have teeth to get gunk stuck between so it starts to break down. They also have an extremely limited diet. For example, breastmilk digests so quickly, there is little time for it to make for bad breath. Fun question.

NO TEETH.

Now that my 9 month old has 6 teeth, he IS getting bad breath. It's the teeth.

I was told it is because they are not on table food yet, that there food breaks down quickly and exits quickly.
