My sister has a 1987 Buick Skyhawk. Her car is fuel injected and does not have a carb. It is leaking gas from the top of the motor. Where a carb. is at ,that is where it leaks gas. I am trying to find out for her what could be causing her gas leak.

Find out quickly...

Haven't you ever been driving down the road and seen one of those cars on the shoulder, with the hood up and flames engulfing the engine compartment an causing a huge smoke cloud?

What do you think is a likely cause of that?

Get real. If you really want to help your sister, then front her the money to get her car into a reliable mechanic...YESTERDAY!

This is stuff you just don't fool around with by wasting time on the internet.

Does the phrase "Her life may be at stake" motivate you?

I hope so...

The gas could be coming fro the gasket around the sending unit or the vapor relief valve. AND YES I WOULD WORRY ABOUT THE LEAK. Beside catching possible catching fire gas evaporates and while you car just sits it is losing gas. The less gas you have in you tank the easier it is to work on. You don't have the liquid moving from side to side when you install the tank. Good Luck. Dan

if your sisters car is throttle body injected theres a gas line behind the throttle body that connects right into it by being screwed in with a wrench, this may need to be tightened. if the car is throttle body injected it can be recognized by top view, it will be circular about 8-10 inches in circumference and it will have two little injectors in the middle of it. they also will be circular about 1 1/2 inches in circumference.

tighten the bolts on the fuel rail, check the fittings and rubber components of the fuel line. recheck for leaks. watch the fuel injector area with the engine on.
