It's been this way since I was little, and the funny thing is that I am very outgoing, when I read out loud, I fear it so much that I stutter and loose air...I feel like dying...I don't think this is normal...lack of confidence? Maybe...but I am a college student...and people all around do not have problems like this.

Go to the web site for The Stuttering Foundation at www.stutteringhelp.org and see if you can find some hints that will help you. They have a bunch of information under "brochures for all ages." You might check you local library for "Self Therpy for the Stutterer." It is a great book full of good information for gaining self confidence as well as a program for overcoming stuttering.

attempt getting a bunch of family individuals and friends mutually once or twice a week and study out loud to them. I say a mixture of the two via fact once you're at college there'll continually be those you experience tender with a hundred% and those no longer lots. only save practising and you gets it. additionally in case you could...pre-study at residing house *the night earlier* what you think of could be study to the class the next day. That way you will already understand the examining. as an occasion, an entire finished financial disaster in a e book is only too lots for one night on ideal of what's needed so which you would be able to do. yet once you understand that at present you study web site 10, then flow residing house and pre-study pages 11-13 just to short your self on it. solid luck!

I'm the same way. One on one or in a group of people, I'm fine. But put me in the focus of a classroom, and I almost shut down. I signed up for and dropped speech class in college three times (fourth time was the charm for me). Whether or not it's normal, you're not alone. I finally did it out of sheer stubbornness and determination, and actually pulled a good grade in the class. It was not easy, I'm not gonna lie to you. And I'm no less nervous now than I was before. But you've just got to find that inner strength inside yourself. Just remember that most people fear it, it just doesn't affect everyone else as much, so they're not judging you, they're just happy they're not the ones who have to be the focus of attention.

What you describe sounds very normal and I'm sure there are many others in your class who feel the same but are too embarrassed to say, for some this stays with them forever I know I certainly hate reading out loud to people

Okay, first of all you obviously do not want to go talk to your tutor/teacher/lecturer about it, it's just a thing you don't wanna do. So, when you have to read somethin' out, just think you're with your friends and chill out when you say it. If you have to say a dramatic piece of dialogue and your teacher is kinda okay, try exaggarating it like as if you're tell your friends a really good joke, to lighten the mood a bit.

Hope that helps.

Try reading out loud at home. Be familiar with the text before you go to class and try talking to your teacher about it. Trust me, the people around you hate it as much as you do. Just read out loud to your self every night...you will be fine.

sounds like anxiety or a panic attack when everything is focused on you. It is very common but people cover these things up. You could try breathing techniques which often work. i have suffered from social anxiety since i was young, i am now having acupuncture which i think is starting to help.Don't think you are alone, talk to someone maybe your doctor and get some help. good luck.

I felt the same in school and then even worse in nursing college, practice lots the night before. Will someone listen? Even now I am on a course and 37 and I still make my fella listen to my presentations. It is a good thing to do cos they do tell you the truth if you ask them to give you feedback. Keep on x

I really used to be this way, too. when I'd have to read, I'd stand up and start reading, but then I'd get so nervous that everyone was looking at me that I'd start to cry or breathe really fast. In English, we're doing a speech unit now. we just did a demonstration speech, where we had to demonstrate some certain process. i think that practice REALLY helps. if you have a roommate or a close friend, practice reading to them, or if not that, just read out loud to yourself. you'll get it eventually. keep trying!
