I've lived in a small apartment building (12 homes) for 1.5 year. I'll live here another year + a half. We're in town for educational reasons. My neighbors aren't the most friendly people, but they're not UNfriendly either. I come from a closely knit family & neighborhood. I want to know these people better!

My concerns are: we're close to a large medical campus w/ probably 5 colleges in a 7 mile vacinity, so, it is very diverse! I have Muslim, Hindu & Christian neighbors of black, white, Chinese, Egyptian, Indian + Latino descent, all in 1 small bldg.. I don't want to offend anyone, & I want them to COME, so I need a little advice.

I'm thinking of setting the party for March 17, but leaving it "unthemed." -also thinking about
. . Invitations (hand out) OR
. .Post cards (mail)
Party favors (I'm creative)
Treat bags 4kids (I have 2)
Chili
Cake & Cones
Chips & Dips
Non-Alco. Drinks
Music DVD’s
Hours? 4pm-9pm or 5-10?
All ages welcome
What 2 call it? Party? Mixer? ??

What a lovely idea! What you have planned sounds good to me. Call it 'Getting to know you'.

To just get to know each other better and acuainted i would keep the affdair smaller not like a big Party . Most people are scared to go to a Party to get to know more people . I would say that you keep it easy on yourself too . Print out some nice postcards or even fliers and deliver them yourself to everybody close by . Make nice sandwichtrays ,like use cookie cutters to stecncil out the sandwich etc. and use nonalcoholic drinks for everybody. taht will keep everything coverd for all the religions . Have some chips and dip with all of that and you wil be fine . keep it easy and not so formal for the people that way thet will find it easier to approach the situation . And the time frame I would do from 5-10 pm Good Luck to you

Very creative and bold of you to make such a move. Wow. Lovely. Even though I wish it, I don't think I'd be able to do it all by myself. Another poster suggested the Open House idea, so no one is pressured to stay. They can come and go. What a cool idea! Hope it goes great! Keep a name that will appeal to people of all ages - older folks included.

Sounds like a great idea. You could call it an open house...so they can come and go when they can and as they please.
