yes I'm afraid it is illegal, however not all highway authorities take active measures to control it, in norfolk where I work as a highway engineer we generally chase the people that are basically traders running businesses by selling cars on the highway and do in extreme cases have the cars towed away and the owner has to pay the costs in doing so before they get it back. We do not chase an individual selling their own private once every couple of years to do so would be rather officious.

i would say so the ruling in portsmouth and the rest of hampshire is that it is illegally to PARK and advertise a car for sale on the road BUT you can drive it to advertise it as long as your car is road legall and hey lets hope the weather is better tomorow i missed seeing the isle of wight today from my lounge
