Last night I watched something on Discovery Channel about alternative energy--my stoner roommate was flipping around--and saw an interesting segment on cars powered with compressed air. I see these things driving around in the piece, and impressed with them. They can go as fast as 60 mph, which is more than enough for city driving. My first question is what is the hold up in putting them on the road. My second question is, would you purchase one? They are very small. They don't require gasoline, btw, and could be a good environmental solution.

Here's the problem:
1. Alternative fuel/energy cars are NOT affordable to the general populace yet. (Just ask a car salesman how sales have gone over the past 5 years and how many of them were NEW, alternative fuel/energy cars.)
2. I do a LOT of highway driving, so anything that can only go 60mph is not enough and therefore a waste of money for me.

What does the air compressor run on? No, I wouldn't buy one. I run with my cruise control set at 73 MPH. Mostly highway, About 70,000 miles per year. That would take allot of air, and a booster.

I would, there are so many pros to getting one, if they go a good 60 MPH at the first generation of it you know it's just gonna get faster and more efficient.

They are probably going to be really expensive

They weren't running on compressed air, it was compressed gas. I might consider buying one in the distant future. They aren't practical now, there isn't anywhere to get fuel, and the technology is to expensive to allow the average person to afford buying and operating one.

They sure couldn't hurt. If the cost was not outrageous, they were made by US auto companies and had relatively easy maintenance and repair projections I would buy one. And I don't often go over 60 where I live anyway.

ah yes perpetual motion from air
who's writing this garbage anyway
they should take physics 101 to find out
cars don't run in a vacuum
friction happens from gears to tire traction to other resistances.
that's why your fridge has an efficiency rating on the yellow tag

yes, until they charged too much for the air, 60 mph is fast enough for anywhere , motorways are coming to a halt anyway
