well leave the broken one out, but you will only have memory form one chip...say you have two 512mb making 1gb of ram and one is broken you will only have 512mb left. and take the broken one out because it may cause problems.

Only one RAM stick will work, the broken one will not.

it depends on the type of ramm. If it's SIMM, then your computer won't work. If it's DIMM, and it's been removed, then it'll work.
