It sounds like it is going into standby mode. It's basically an energy saver thing. Go to your desktop and right click. This will give you some options. Chhose properties. then screen saver and power. There should be an option for a time limit. Put in how long you want your computer to wait before it goes off. Then at the bottom enter: apply and save. Then close that box and you are done. Hope this helps.

Your settings must be set to turn your computer off after a specific amount of minutes. You can change this quite easily

START>
CONTROL PANEL
(switch to classic view if you have the XP view/blue screen style)
Double click DISPLAY
click SCREENSAVER tab (at the top)
click POWER (in monitor settings)

you now have drop down menus where you can select how long you want your PC to stay on before it switches off etc. make your selctions

click APPLY
click OK

with your mouse, right click, select properties when the window appears click screen saver, change the wait time to something like 40 minutes or an hour (depending on your preference) and take the password lock off, by clicking next to "on resume ask for password"

Right click your desktop go to Properties, click the screen saver tab, then uncheck the box that says something like 'on resume, display welcome screen/login'.
