This is how regenerative braking works - the forward motion of the car is converted into electricity, which slows and stops the car. The car stops because the energy causing the car to move forward has to be used up to make electricity. This is why you can't get free energy while the car is driving - the energy to make the electricity has to come from somewhere.

Actually the hybrid does this. It is just when you are driving on the elctric for extended times that you may have to plu 'er in. THe hybrid is designed with a large alternator that will charge the engine quite sufficiently. Working on them is like an adventure
