I thought it was the other way around! Take each person for the way HE or SHE is. One cannot simply dislike someone because he belongs to one race or the other. That would be an artificial feeling. The French do SEEM to have a bit of a chip on their shoulders. It may come from an inferiority complex as a result of having lost so many wars (almost ALL the wars they took part in) and having had to be rescued by the British and Americans in the last two world wars. Maybe, I don't know for sure, but it's a nice, easy conclusion to come to.

Not all Amercians are the same, and not all dislike the French. As someone said earlier, supposedly the French are rude to American tourists, but I've never been there, so who am I to judge?
But to answer your freedom fries question, that came about when France refused to ally with the USA in Iraq. It is stupid and childish, but evidently has happened before and in other countries, including France:
France: During World War I, the coffee with whipped cream, previously known as Café Viennois (Vienna coffee) was renamed Café Liégeois (Coffee from Liège) due to the state of war with Austria-Hungary. This appellation is still in use today, mainly for ice-creams (chocolat liégeois and café liegeois).

Not sure that Americans dislike the French so much, where did you pick that up from? There may have been some public criticism of the French stance about Iraq but that does not mean that most Americans dislike the French. Also some French have their own reasons for disliking some aspects of American foreign policy or culture.

The French are wonderful people. But I didn't learn this until I went to France and saw first hand how helpful and welcoming they are!
Americans give the French a bad name...not sure why....but when you go to France you can NOT be the kind of tourist who expects THEM to speak english or cater to YOU. You need to step it up and try to speak French and become a part of their land. :-)
I love the French.....

Take too long to explain here but the simplest explanation might be that France is a lovely country that is spoilt by a lot of the people living in it.

It isn't all Americans that don't like the French. France refused to follow our (U.S.) government into the black hole of the Middle East, to mass murder for oil. Bill O'Reilly (do you get his show in the U.K.?) set out to get the French...he persuaded millions not to buy French wine and other products.
The House of Representatives, at the time, was in the hands of like-minded Republican, conservative, right-wing fanatics...they actually LISTEN to Bill O'REILLY!
There is alot to love about France and its people, and I do love the French people, in spite of the minority that are condescending to people from every other country.
Freedom fries is a joke. We will never in a million years stop calling them french fries.
