I have endometriosis and I can't afford surgery to get it removed. Will people donate if I request on a public site or somewhere?

Hysterectomy does not 'remove Endometriosis,' nor does it cure the disease. It removes the uterus. Endometriosis, by definition, is tissue similar to that which lines the uterus implanted elsewhere in the body. Removal of the uterus may be helpful for *some* women with advanced and unresponsive stages, adenomyosis, frozen pelvis syndrome, or other specific cases, but it should never be used as a first line treatment for Endo. The notion that hysterectomy and/or bilateral salpingoophorectomy are the cures for Endometriosis are as outdated and erroneous as the notions that pregnancy and menopause are cures (see "aromatase+Endometriosis" to learn how the disease self-sustains). The effective treatment for Endometriosis is to remove all disease, not healthy organs. You should focus your efforts on obtaining definitive treatment such as excision, not hysterectomy that may be a waste of all the money you may have raised in donations.

Secondly, almost all public hospitals work on sliding scales. You would more than likely be eligible for a significant discount. Getting the doctor and anesthesiologist to lower their fees as well on an "indigent" basis is also a total possibility. Even the best specialists in the country discount their fees and in some cases operate pro bono where warranted. There may be other social services or community resources you are eligible for as well. There are resources available to patients who cannot afford to pay; they just need to seek them out.

People are highly unlikely to donate to an individual on a website. You may get some donations here and there, but they will be neglible and not get you much closer to your goal. People want to donate to tax-exempt, tax-deductible organizations that legitimately offer services to the public, not an anonymous individual on a website. As someone else mentioned, you would be better off seeking local support within your community; but again, decide what it is you want to raise the money for. Hysterectomy is not the best option. Good luck to you.

nice one, rachel

although i agree with her. and, no money is tight these days. if endometriosis is a terminal problem, there are hospitals that will give you surgery for as low a cost as you need. at least there are here in MPLS, MN.

other wise, pay for your own damn hysterectomy.
