I'm not sure why everyone here is saying that it's because of the hentai (porn). Most anime fans I know are below eighteen.

It's because anime is cartoons that aren't for children, and most have beautiful art styles and plotlines. They're more mature than American cartoons, and some stories just can't be conveyed with live action alone. Try and think: how many American shows have you seen that are aimed towards teenagers? Or was serious and had depressing aspects in it?

Take Fullmetal Alchemist for example. The main character spends most of his time walking around with two metal limbs, and his brother is a soul in an empty suit of armor. If they tried to make that into a live action show, the cg-ing and animation would make the show look overly cheezy. Anime, while a cartoon, at least is consistant and can still be beautiful.

In short, anime has become the border between cartoon and live action mature shows.

No offense, but that's a rather ridiculous question. We're into it for the same reason anyone is into anything else: we find it interesting and fun.
Also, it's different from Western TV. The animation is cool, the plotlines are different, and the characters are interesting and unique. Honestly, they're addictive.
All in all, it just makes a nice change from typical American cartoons and sitcoms, since you can actually expect something original and exciting.

I believe the concept is making the story lines close to the viewers as possible. The visuals are compelling, yet the viewers can relate to the personal desires and satisfactions of the heroine or hero.
American animation does not cater to its fans like the Japanese. Peter Parker and Logan battle everyday with themselves and continue to strive to do the right thing.
Have you ever seen or heard about Robin, The Teen Wonder going on a date? Green Lantern John Stewart going to check on his High Blood Pressure? and most of all termites found at Wayne Manor!

Well from and artistic point of view I like the art work.
I have ten books on how to draw Manga I found them very informitive and very helpful.
As for as the cartoons some of them are a little strange and very adult oriented .
People like different things some peolpe like hot tea othere like it cold.
The reason they like Japanese art is because it is just different than here in the USA,
I myself still like Iron man the Incredible Hulk and spiderman,
and the old classic bugs bunny daffy duck and Elmmer Fudd

To support all the starving Japanese and Korean animators. Really it's just like any other kind of entertainment. You see something that attracts your attention and you stay with it until it doesn't anymore. Escaping into a fantasy world, on occasion, is a nice break for some people. At least it is for me.

Cause it's interesting, there's characters with individual personalities.
In English animation it's all stereotyped and the storylines are predictable and clean/boring.
In Anime/Manga, there's different, real-seeming people.
They even have Gamers, Porn-Addicts, Perverts, and stuff like that.
British broadcasters wouldn't dare put something like... Princess Princess on, or something like that.
It's adventurous, and they have some pretty f*cked-up people writing Mangas XD
EG.
Renge (Ouran) - Female Gamer/Otaku, Rich and neurotic.
You don't get that kind of awesome combo on US and UK stuff...
They never include people like Female Gamers (or just geeks in general) in media... It's sad :(
THAT's why everyone loves Anime and Manga :D

Because Japanese animation is the best animation in the world and Disney is second.

Most people are into japanese animation 'hentai' or 'anime' for the sexy little japanese schoolgirl outfits and kinky stuff.

It is impressive art and animation - I remember seeing 'Akira' for the first time and being blown away after years of watching crappy American animation. 'Foolie Coolie' is a good series - it's japanimation, but they make fun of a lot of the people that are into it, 'calling it gundam when its actually giant robot anime' -pretty funny.

part of it is because most of the stories are based on classic archetypes, which everyone on some level can relate to. Part of it is beacause the art is really pretty. Part of it is because someone told them it was trendy, and as for the rest, I don't know- most of my friends are into it, and Im just, well.. not.
