I'm going to buy a house that's got a couple problems with it. It's in Michigan and one of the problems is that there's either been termite or water damage to one of the support beams in the basement. It's a section about a foot long or so (I'm not very knowledgeable about this sort of thing) It's already been fortified by the previous owner so that it no longer supports weight on that part.

I had an inspector who priced the required work at about $1500. Does this seem correct? It shouldn't be a problem getting to the area either.

When you buy the house it will have to have a termite inspection. They should tell you and the owner what has to be done to fix it if it effects the saftey of the building.
