What is the best type of watch?

Digital, mechanic, atomic.

The best quality. I want it to last a very long time and I want it to be as accurate as possible. I don't want it to lag or fall behind over time.

The most accurate would be a Swiss quartz watch since it is a battery. However, you'd have to change the batteries pretty often and I tend to think of them as lower end watches.

I'm a total fan of mechanical watches (especially automatics) with Patek being the highest on the list. You cannot go wrong with Patek and it'll last for generations.

Go with something atomic or with a swiss movement...typically you should avoid japanese movements because they do tend to lose more seconds per year than a swiss. Do know that if you are looking for the most accurate timekeeping capabilities then you are looking at a higher price and higher maintenance costs on the piece. I saw someone list Rolex, and unless you can find a certified Rolex repair shop, you're looking at a 6-month turnaround to send it out for a battery change!
Same can happen with omega and tag.

Citizen EcoDrive. I've had mine for 3 years now and it still runs like the day I bought it. It is part battery powered, part light charged and in the three years I've had mine I still haven't had to replace the battery. Reasonable Cost and Looks Great.
