Hey Linda can you give more details like model, mileage and service history? Usually hey are great cars but it depends on many factors. I would for sure take it over the Alero but it depends on the service history and other details about the car. As I said I highly recommend them but since it is used it depends on the history.

Actually the wrx has been around since the 90s, just in japan. Either way I doubt this car is a wrx. Subarus make very reliable cars they are well built. You will find some issues with all makes and models, overall subarus are a good choice. Assuming you are looking at similar cars I'm guessing you are looking at an impreza which is a fantastic car and decent on gas.

shinynog...the WRX didn't start coming out until 2002. Linda is looking at a 2001 Impreza.

Linda, the Impreza is a fine car especially at that price. They're very reliable as long as you take care of them well. The only thing I would worry about Subaru's is in their electrical systems (wiring to be exact) it seems like the only place that they skimped on. Otherwise, great cars and you get the added benefit of AWD.

not bad cars i served my apprenticeship at a subaru garage like all cars they have good points and bad points rear wheel bearings are an old favorite make sure they've had the modification done, if its a four wheel drive make sure the gearbox isn't whining in fifth gear same for the rear diff and that the clutch is ok also if the engine knocks when hot run away and buy a gm product with a 2.0 litre engine

I encourage you NOT to buy a Subaru at all. I bought one from my grandmother who only drove it to church and back. It was garaged and then I bought it from her with 90,000 miles. the car is now dead at 107.000 miles. A manufacturer's defect caused the engine to tear itself apart! It was a 1991 Legacy. I know several people that would advise against buying a Subaru. I would suggest Honda. I've got one with almost 200,000 miles and still going strong! My brother has one with 351,000 miles on it! If you want reliable, go Honda!
