After an engine oil change, I smell strong tire burning like smell from the vent. It lasts about a couple of hours, and then, the smell disappears. My car is Mazda MPV 2005. I brought the car to the dealership, and they said that the antifreeze hose had a leak. they said that they need to replace it.

But my question is, if there is a leak, why there is still a lot of antifreeze left in the antifreeze tank? And why is the smell is gone after a couple of hours?

i own a repair shop and this is caused from an oil change ,they usually spill oil on the exhaust pipe and don't wipe it off ,after a while it burns off, some cars the way there made its real hard to keep from getting it on something, but that's probably all it is,and as far as the anti freeze goes ,there should be some in the tank, they may have topped it off,and added too much but it shouldn't hurt it none at all,the engine will only pull as much as it needs in to it,so i wouldn't worry about that none, good luck i hope this help,s.

It's probably oil. The smells are different but some people don't know this. That is an antifreeze resivior, not a tank. Antifreeze flows in and out of the resivoir as the coolant expands and contracts with the temperature of the motor.

could be a lot of things but nothing to do with your antifreeze, unless you had your car flushed.
possible reasons:
they used the wrong oil
forgot to change the oil filter
oil cap might not be on tight enough
to much oil spilled on your engine and its giving off a burning smell
they didn't add enough oil
might be to little oil.

If this only happened once, thay spilled oil on the manifold, if not
it could be like the dealership said, It don't take much antifreeze
to get the smell, and it may take a while befor you see the antifreeze level get low......Good luck .........Mel......

They probably dripped some oil shile changing it. It happens all the time. I smell the same thing when I get my oil changed. Have someone else look at your hose besides the dealer. Dealers are known for replacing things that aren't broken.

Just oil that leaked onto the engine block burning itself off.

Its probably just some oil spilled on the engine block from when they added oil back into your car.

The anti freeze comes out only when the car is running. You will still some in the reservoir, tapit up.
