While the Apartheid was officially abolished in 1994, with the first democratic elections ever held, the year prior that historical event revolved around the gradual dismantling of the regime. This went hand in hand with the International Community removing the sanctions they had laid on South Africa. One of them was welcoming back SA as an Olympic member. In 1964, the country was banned from the Olympics over its refusal to condemn apartheid.
