"unas" means "some" and is for a female group
"los" means "the", plural. It can refer to a group of males or a mixed group.
"unos" means "some" --the plural of the English "a" as is "a boy." It can refer to a group of males or a mixed group--or just a group in general, if you don't know the gender of the members.
"el," of course, is "the", masculine, singular

What was probably throwing you off is the fact that the masculine plural can also be used for a mixed group. They have no neuter term.

I get these translations from www.freetranslation.com. They should be fairly accurate.

A. some students
B. The students
C. Some students
D. The student

I didn't find out which was male of female with A and C if those were the two. but this is what I got and I hope it helps.
