Not always but it is best to read the fine print. Some offers are free for a limited time only & if you do not return the item they charge you for it; either by bill or put it on your credit card, if you have given them your card & #!
With some free offers, using a credit card is the only way to receive a free trial offer. Those I wouldn't bother trying.

only if you keep it past the free trial period. Like AOL will bill you for the time of a free trial, if you cancel in the free trial time they will cancel the billing, if you don't they take the money for the trial period also.

Also as mentioned, a free trial doesn't cover any shipping cost you might incur to get the product to try.

i have ordered free trials on a couple of things and you will get slammed with a bill if you dont cancell before the trial period is over, dont give credit card info or bank info. they love to find a way to get your money before you know whats going on.

No, but watch two things - inflated shipping and handling and offers that require a credit card.
