I have this girl who is really young and is trying to get pregnant, she conceived a child not too long ago but suffered a miscarriage about a little more than a month ago, she had claimed that she had no period since the miscarriage which very well could have been her period but she was 9 weeks along and didn't require a d&c the doctor just told her that it would pass, she had a follow up appointment two to three days ago and then she took a pregnancy test today and it came up a strong positive. I would think a blood test would be more accurate than a home test. The things she is telling me are not adding up and I am starting to think something is up, I am not getting in the middle of it but she keeps asking for advice. she has a doc appt today to get another blood test but could she have ovulated so quickly after a miscarriage??? WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK??

Yes its possible. After you miscarry you are more fertile than normal for about the next 3 months. Same thing after you give birth. You will produce more of the mucus that you need to concieve for those next 3 months or so. Same thing happened to me last year and I got pregnant again within the next month after I miscarried. Unfortunately, I lost the 2nd one too. That's also a common occurance if you get pregnant so soon after a miscarriage you are more likely to miscarry again. However, she does need to go to the doctor and make sure the positive test isn't left over hormones from the miscarriage before (which is possible but should be gone by now). But she should check... just to be on the safe side...

I got pregnant a few weeks after I had a miscarriage. I was 11 weeks along when i had the miscarriage and I didn't have to have a d&c. I did not get a period after the baby passed. So it could be possible. I would get a blood test to see how high her hcg levels are. That would be more accurate and she would know for sure.

My friend had a miscarriage in December and her doctor told her to be careful for the next three months b/c spontaneous conception is very common after a miscarriage.

after i had my miscarriage i started my period the very next month when it was due but the doctor told me that you can ovulate and get pregnant 2 weeks after having a miscarriage but that it is best to wait 2-3 months before trying to get pregnant again.

Ironically women are more fertile immediately after a miscarriage or having a baby, it is highly likely that the girl you know did ovulate and if the HPT is coming up positive it is possible she is pregnant again/still.

Absolutely, you can ovulate right after a miscarriage. I did - about 2 weeks and 2 days later. You can also get pregnant soon after you have a baby. Ever hear of Irish twins? :)
