mostly because of his poetic interpretive lyrics meaning that his songs are in code, but i guess the crooning voice is another one, so do you agree? and are there any other artists you'd compare Kurt to? thanks

Bob Dylan? I would compare Cobain more to Gram Parsons than Bob Dylan. Dylan wrote more subject sprawling material than Cobain. However, the reason why Cobain and Parsons are similar is because they wrote usually about the same subjects (the price of fame vs. living simplistic, alienation, heartbreak, coping with success, etc.). Don't get me wrong, Cobain was an unique talent, but his style (and ironically, his career) mirror Parsons.

i can compare kurt to a washed out junkie with a 5 o'clock shadow. but not bob dylan. a million and a half artist write poetic lyrics... bob dylans words changed the world. kurt's got him on mtv. plus kurt was a terrible guitarist, there's no real comparison. then again it's just an opinon

I wouldn't compare them. In the first place (and while I repsect Bob Dylan's music and song writing skills) Kurt Cobain could actually sing. And another reason not to compare them is, Bob Dylan chose to live and entertain us for a lot longer of a time.

No. They are completely different stylistically. Even a superficial listen to the catelogues of both is enough to understand that. I prefer Dylan, but, for the most part, Cobain's songs are good enough to stand for themselves. A better comparison would probably be to Jim Morrison or John Lennon in certain contexts, but there is really no need to make a comparison.

Riiiight... in terms of influence, Cobain's value is like 1/1000th of Dylan... there's your comparison. Comparing a guy who barely squeezed otu two or three records to the man who has been highly influential over 40 years... a cute and not very funny joke, like a 5-year old would tell.

dylans lyrics werent in code, he just used metaphors and gave his lyrics depth, not "coded"..and cobain sorry to say, i am a fan of nirvana, but he was never on the level of poetic genius that dylan was in his beggining times n NY city...so i would definitly say i cannot agree with tour questiona at all

p.s. screw u tiffany compared with dylan nirvana is absolute crap..

I'd go so far to call Cobain the Dylan of our generation. Though, I'd compare him more to Alice Cooper with the innuendo and code you refer to.

Absolutely not.

Kurt and Bob have two different taste. Kurt is an artsy fartsy seattle kid...Bob is a folk singer...way different.

Plus, Bob is still rockin' today..and Kurt ..well...he's worm food.

I disagree. His death is what skyrocketed him to that status, not his music. I like some Nirvana, some Dylan, but Cobain is nowhere near him musically.

Kurt is more like Jim Morrison or Jimmy Hendricks.

Bob is still alive and he has written many more songs.
