I'm pretty sure that grubs killed part of my lawn late last summer. Will they live through the winter and then keep killing my lawn this spring/summer? What can I do to get those dead spots growing again?

They sure do. They are worse in yards with crepe myrtles. Your local garden shop will have something that will work. The grubs may not be the problem though. Your grass may have a disease that spreads rapidly. You can also find something for your grass at the garden shop. If you describe your problem to the shop keeper, generally they can determine what it is and give you good directions to control it.

The garden shop can also advise you on reseeding the dead areas. There may be a waiting period, depending on what treatments you use on your lawn. You can try reseeding the dead areas just as they are if they are rather large. I've had good luck that way.

Yes the grubs are there in the soil waiting for spring. I find them every spring when I turn my vegetable garden. I would recommend you purchase a fertilizer that specifically lists it kills or 'controls' grubs and apply according the package directions for your area.

The dead spots can be left and the lawn will fill in, or you can reseed them with grass seed and top with a little peat moss. The peat moss retains moisture and keeps the birds from eating the seed.

If you live in an area that gets lots of rain, you should lime your lawn a day or two before you fertilize. It will bring the pH back to a range to allow the grass to better absorb the fertilizer.

Good luck!

Yep grubs go deeper and semi hibernate in the winter. Just reseed the dead spots. The dead grass cant recover because the roots are gone.
