The last I heard Gates has been the richest man in the world since 1993. Net worth approximately 28 billion I think.

Depends on how you value the US dollar. As the dollar fluctuates in value so does the richest man title. So... some say it is IKEA founder Ingvar Kamprad, of Sweden, with his string of furniture stores. Other times they say Bill Gates selling computer sofware. So... it's the difference between $47 billion vs. $53 billion. Much of the wealth in Gates portfolio is stock options which would be "paper profit". Then again, what if IKEA had a going out of business sale? What would the stores turn into cash?

If you mean rich, in terms of fulfilment in life (or some hippy stuff like that), then it could be anyone. Look for the guy in the street with the biggest smile on his face.

Father Christmas as he can afford to give every kid in the world presents every year and he can afford to buy genetically modified reindeer that fly, how much are they worth. I reckon the pope is a close second as those churches must be worth a few quid
