Tell me some ways you naturally get rid of a headache. This doesn't mean taking over the counter or/& prescription drugs.

What if you were at work with a headache? What would you do then?

Mrs. CalTex,
The two most common headaches are tension headaches and sinus headaches. Both of these can be relieved, somewhat, by heat.

You can make a hot compress by wetting some paper towels and microwaving them for several seconds. Be careful, however, because if they get too hot they or the steam from them can burn you. I prefer to use a washcloth or dishtowel, but you may not be able to get one at work. I also put the compress in a plastic bag.

Apply the compress to the painful area for ten minutes (or more if the pain just won't go away.)

If it is your sinuses (pain under, above and between your eyes) hold the compress over them with your head tilted back. For Sinus pain you can also help by sipping hot beverages, hold the very warm (but not scalding) liquid in your mouth for a second or two so the heat rises to your sinuses. Sometimes chewing gum will help with sinus pain as it can jostle the sinus cavities and encourage drainage.

If you have a persistant problem with headaches at work, you may want to buy a re-usable microwave pillow or compress... ones filled with rice or buckwheat are very soothing.

I agree, though, that persistant headaches should be discussed with your doctor.

I hope you feel better soon!

P.S. I respect that you don't want to take drugs. But if you're not totally opposed to pills two generic sudafed and any over-the-counter painkiller are the best remedy I've found for sinus headaches... and I get them a lot.

Depends on how bad your headache is. The is a natural pain reliever that you can get at most health stores called formula 303. Its a natural supplement so it has nothing synthetic in it. There is also a product called natural calm that is nothing but magnesium, which is also another muscle relaxer, you drink it like a hot tea. Then there is also getting adjusted by a chiropractor or even getting a massage.
But there is a reason why you are getting headaches and if you get them often i would suggest going to see a chiro.

Ok, this is a serious suggestion. Go buy a bulb syringe. You get them in the drug store where they sell baby supplies. Usually used to pull mucus out of a baby's nose. Instead, fill a cup with warm salt water (NOT hot!). You are going to stand over the sink and open your mouth and shoot the liquid up your nose. Yes, sounds disgusting, but all that nasty mucus in your sinuses is going to come out your mouth. I am telling you, it works. It will help relieve the pressure and get a lot of that infection out until you can see the ENT. Don't do it more than twice in each nostril. What doesn't just come right out will be much easier to blow out after wards. It's going to make your eyes water! But you will have immediate relief!

Muscles get knots called trigger points. These make the muscles tight causing them to press on nerves and other thing.
Pain can be referred from places other than the head.
#1 The first thing is to take a couple swigs of molasses or eat a couple of bananas. They contain magnisium and potassium both of which muscles need.
#2 WATER she should be drinking 1/2 gallon minimum. The head of neurology at UCDavis likens a body running low on water to a car running low on oil (the engine can seize).
Get a good (deep tissue) massage (to loosen the trigger points) on the back, shoulders and neck. Make sure to press up at the base of the skull where it meets the spine.
You rub or lightly scratch everywhere on your head. You will hit spots that are tender these are trigger points. The idea is to rub across them 6-12 times per session up to six times per day until they go away.
For more information on trigger points read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.

For tension headaches, I find lavender essential oil applied to my temples helps. I also take Tissue Salts which are a homeopathic remedy.

For migraines, taurine & vitamin C from my naturopath does the trick.

My husband usually gets headaches when he is dehydrated, so a few glassesof water does the trick for him.

To be honest with you, I'm home sick now. I'm a 6th grader and I was sent home for a migrane. Mom and Dad are at work and I'm kinda freaked out about it. But I threw up from my migrane and I feel so much better. I'm eating some tostito's and hot cheez whiz right now lol. That's what I'd do. Um. . . at school before they called my dad to pick me up, I took two motrin pills and that didn't help. They called Dad and he picked me up. I was supossed to take 2 excedrin migrane pills but I only took 1. I threw up and I feel 100% better. Good Luck with your headache and get well soon.
P.s. Don't rub your temples, makes me worse!
