I'm haveing a lot of problems with my group of friends. The whole thing is so catty and I hate the way one small thing can make the whole group turn against you. My friend won tickets to a comedy show and I said i MAY go. When it came to the day, me and my bf had some things to do on our ONLY DAY OFF all week and we said we couldn't make it. Now it caused this uproar in our group and everyone is mad at us now. Why why why?

I juat want to say that we are the type of friends that are supposed to be casual. I'm the only one still in college with homework and school the next day. They knew a few days in advance that we may not be able to attend. They all went and made sure I knew that they had a good time. My boyfriend and I have been dating for like 4 years and live together, so its not like i blew them off for my boyfriend. I spend enough time with him, we just seriously had things to do and couldn't make it.

Wow, that is catty! Some girls are just very self devoted and selfish. They think that they come above all things, including your boyfriend and your free time. Apologize once and no more, if they are true friends they should understand. Sometimes when girls get together they like to be swayed into feeling one way or another, so they're not unpopular with group. Doesn't make it right, so stand your ground. You'll see who your true friends are.

No offense, but you may want to get yourself a new group of friends, ones that support you and respect your decisions, instead of backbiting, criticizing, or pressuring you. You need to be a leader, not a follower, and stop blindly buying in to such idiotic group behavior.

To paraphrase the often quoted Doctor "Phil", you teach people how to behave towards you. If your friends do not give you the respect you feel you deserve, it may be because you have tolerated, or even participated in such behavior in the past.

It is a lot better to have a few good friends, than a large number of bad ones.

Good luck.....

Well after reading you statement I must confess that was actually pretty lame of you.

"Only day off"? SO your telling me that your boyfriend never gets days off like the rest of the world. Sounds fishy!

You made plans with a friend and then you flaked out.

Your friend sees you choosing your boyfriend over her, which you did.

I would be pretty mad too if you backed out. You think she is going to win more tickets to this comedy show? NO! You shouldn't have asked to go. If you say your going to go, then go. Otherwise she could have have fun with someone else.

Think about this....

Your boyfriend plans this big day for the both of you on your 16th birthday. Now your only going to be 16 once, so its really special. Then the day finally comes and some guys of his want to play football. So he goes and plays with them.

Are you hurt, or do you just forget all your plans and deal with it?

I don't know if it's just girls that do it or not, but it's possibly because people just LOVE to make mountains out of molehills. It might have been better if you'd let them know before the day of the show that you wouldn't be coming; but in the grand scheme of things, this is small potatoes. Some people just thrive on unnecessary drama.

For this situation I would say that this group of friends really wanted you and your boyfriend to attend, so that the extra
ticket(s) would not go to waste. Getting into an uproar about it is ridiculous.

Well if the rest of your group got to go then I don't see why they are angry that you didn't go. But you did stand them up.

It seems like you cared about your boyfriend more than your friends. No offence but it's pretty much your fault. Friends are more important than boyfriends.

What if your boyfriend said he would go out with you and then his friends tell him to hangout with them. Wouldn't you get mad?
Just tell your friends your sorry, if they don't forgive you, well I don't blame them!

Sometime girls are straight up B(I)THES because you fee that your are just our friend and your bf should come second to last when we need to hang out. So, treat them to a movie, lunch, have drinks at your house and things would be back in motion.

(Sigh) Welcome to the wonderful world of the dark side of girls. I think you should all sit down and talk about why these little things make some of you so angry, and you should put things into proportion and not let them ruin your friendship. Good luck :)
