The author of Fruits Basket changed her style while drawing, that's why it looks different.
(I liked the style before better ...)

If you read in around volume 7/8ish Takaya mentions problems with her drawing arm. After she'd done chapter 45 she had to go into hospital to have an operation. (at this time the anime was created to keep up popularity, of course we know this failed as the anime was hated by the majority of Japanese fans.) Once she'd recovered, Takaya's drawing improved greatly because she was no longer restricted by the problem. The result is the pretty big change in style. ^^

they just changed over the years. like, Natsuki Takaya more drew, more she got better with her style as the time went by.
not that she was ever bad at drawing.... i've loved her work ever since i read book 1.

I think the change was too dramatic but it is by the same mangaka. It's not fake but I can't believe the art changed that much!

They aren't fake....it's probably a change of style...have you ever done that....you drawing something for awhile and without you even knowing, it sort of changes?
