Because they are weak . Eating food rich in the vitamin B, massaging the nails with coconut oil , using gloves or applying lemon juice can also be effective.More cheap and natural remedies for nail care at the link below.

Because nails are layered ,they have lost their moisture.

your nails are built up of several layers. the top being weaker than the bottom. mine do the SAME thing, because i bite them alot.

they tend to do this when they are dried out.either moisturize and lather your hands up in lotion or trim them a bit.it tends to happen in the winter and when you've been handling a lot of paper.just dried out.lol.
