You can be playing in the snow or the waves in less that a hour. It is nice here.

I think it's the best place to live.
* The weather is amazing year-round; nothing like the desert heat, and no shoveling your car out of the snow. The ocean makes the weather even more temperate than other, more inland parts of California.
* It has everything you could want culturally -- museums, theaters, several universities (including UC Irvine, which is among the top 15 public colleges and universities in the country according to US News & World Report), nice restaurants, great shopping.
* It has a wide variety of neighborhoods to live in, from less expensive areas like Anaheim and Santa Ana, to ritzy Newport Beach, and family-friendly places like Irvine and Mission Viejo, and artsy places like Laguna Beach.
* It's close enough to LA to get there easily without having to deal with the extra traffic, attitude, and pollution.
* A lot of really great companies are opening HQ or branches in OC, including Google (recently ranked #1 in Fortune magazine's list of 100 Best Companies to Work For) and Microsoft.
* Compared to LA and SD, it feels more nature-like and sprawling, because of county and city regulations that preserve huge chunks of land as nature preserves whenever a new development starts.
And that's just the beginning. :o)
