My daughter is shaking her head back and forth. For awhile she was only doing it on the floor and I didnt think much of it, thought it was cute. But now she is doing it in her high chair. Am I missing something? Any ideas?

Just that it's kinda fun for a little person to see what they see when they move their heads back and forth. It's funny for us to watch them too. Enjoy it with her and try it out yourself. You might get a little dizzy, but she'll think it's a riot.

My baby is 8 months old and loves to shake her head. Although she does it up and down like she is saying yes. Try copying her and make it a game. She will love it! Don't worry...babies do weird things.

Take her to have her ears checked - especially if she's had any congestion. Some babies do this when they have an earache.

The other reality is - worst-case senario - it could be some form of seizure, or best case senario - she just learned she could do it. (Much like when she discovered her fingers - they went right into her mouth, because they could.)

Either way - it's worth looking into.

My son's 5 months and does that on the floor. I think they assume its a sort of fun game to amuse themselves.

It is probably normal, but watch closely. Is your baby giving you good eye contact, does she respond to her name and is she pretty much a happy baby? Is she exploring her world through taste and touch? Is she cooing and patting objects? If all this is happening I would say she is fine, but if she is behind in these areas then there would be reason to worry.

I have nannied and I have a helped family raise their children and now I have a one year old myself. What I have observed is all of the babies do it. It really freaked out my best friend though. But it's just part of your baby discovering her body and what it can do. I find it funny when they discover it and I have made a game out of it.

As you can tell from the comments.....This is totally normal!

My son does it too and he's 10 months.... I worried myself for a while because I was afraid it wasn't "normal"....

I guess it's just the way babies entertain themselves.....

I wish we were all so easily entertained....

Good luck!!!

She's probably just having fun! She's learned what her neck can do, and she's having a blast - however, if she continues to do it and you're concerned, call her pediatrician and see what he thinks.

I wish you well!

both of my daughters did this as babies too. I think they think it is funny and it's a game.
