I will be moving to Sugar Land, Texas in March. I am wondering what the area is like and what there is to do around the city. For example, fishing, hunting, nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and how are the people that live there?

Sugar Land is great! I love it. It's fairly quiet - for entertainment you really have to go into Houston, but that's pretty easy - downtown Houston is maybe 40 minutes away (although the rush hour traffic on 59 can be murder and you can expect to have to double the travel time). Most of Sugar Land's shopping is along the access roads parallel to 59. The First Colony Mall in town is large, clean, and really very nice, and Houston's shopper's paradise The Galleria (4th largest mall in the US) is not far away. There's an open air shopping district by Sugar Land's City Hall that is alive at night with cafes and pleasant gathering places. I have always found the people in Sugar Land friendly and outgoing. I can't say I know much about the hunting and fishing locally, but a lot of Sugar Landers enjoy those hobbies and there are plenty of opportunities in the area. The Houston sports teams (Astros, Texans, Rockets, Aeros) are not too far away and very accessible. I expect you'll really enjoy living in Sugar Land.
P.S. There is construction going on right now on 59 to widen the highway. Because of that there are times when the traffic is absolutely horrendous, but when it's finished it will be just fine. Don't be alarmed at first sight!

I live in Katy which is northwest of Sugar Land and work in Stafford which is just east of SugarLand. You'll be in the general Houston area so there is plenty to do. Right in Sugar Land there is First Colony Mall which I think is currently undergoing additions/remodel. West of Sugar Land there is Brazos Bend State Park where you can go fishing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, bird watching, gator watching, and the George Observatory which has a 36in telescope. There are several restaurants within the vicinity of First Colony Mall (don't know the names) and then there are others at the Fountains on the Lake shopping center where there is also a Loews movie theater.
Sugar Land is a very nice area. ...but...it is also very busy and is growing rapidly. The traffic is fairly heavy, especially near First Colony Mall, major freeways, and large shopping centers. Well...heavy traffic seems to be a way of life in the entire Houston area, not just Sugar Land.

There are all sorts of restaurants, shopping is great, try First Colony Mall. As for fishing there are a few lakes around, now hunting I don't know about. I live right outside of Sugar Land in Missouri City and I can tell you the people here and in Sugar Land are wonderful.Just go by the adage and treat people as you would like to be treated and everything will be alright. Welcome to Ft. Bend County.
