The Pythagorean Theorem states that a^2+b^2=c^2. So:

c=sqrt[(15)^2+(25)^2)]
c=sqrt[225+625]
c=sqrt[850]
c=29.155m

So, if the question is how many meters are saved...

(a+b)-c=(25+15)-29.1555=40-29.155=10.845
By crossing the diagonal, you will walk 10.845 meters less than if you walked from A to C to B.

Hi You have two sides, 15 and 25 (cm, miles, lightyears... no difference). Find the hypotenuse (15x15 + 25x25, take the square root of the the answer.) 15+25 is long way around, hypotenuse is the shortcut.

so AC = 15, CB = 25

and your looking for AB right?

so if u do a^2 + b^2 = c^2

15^2 + 25^ = c^2

to find out how many meters are saved, you simply take your answer from above, and subtract it from line AC + line BC.

AB = root (15^2+25^2) = 29.155 m

distance saved = (AC + CB) - AB = (15+25) - 29.155
= 10.845 m
