Birkhead and Smith initially met in May 2003 at the Barnstable Brown Gala, one of the major Louisville-area Kentucky Derby parties that attracts many celebrities.
Testimony During Proceedings to Adjudicate Remains of Anna Nicole Smith
Mr. Birkhead appeared before Judge Larry Seidlin to give testimony at the proceedings to adjudicate the remains of Ms. Smith, and was compelled to provide information about himself, including his income. These proceedings were covered by the news media in real time and simultaneously disseminated worldwide via the Internet. During cross-examination by Ms. M. Krista Barth, counsel for claimant Howard K Smith, Ms. Barth compelled Mr. Birkhead to read embarrassing emails he sent to Ms. Smith and even read Mr. Birkhead's email address in open court.
Claim of paternity
Amongst several men making paternity claims, including Howard K. Stern, Mark Hatten, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt and Smith's former bodyguard Alexander Denk, Birkhead believes he is the father of Smith's infant daughter, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern. Smith claimed that her attorney and boyfriend Howard K. Stern is the father.[2] When Anna Nicole Smith died on February 8, 2007, Birkhead filed an emergency order to get custody of the child, his attorney Debra Opri told CNN.[citation needed] In the days after Anna Nicole's death he claimed that he helped Anna prepare for the birth and gave her an ultimatum to enter rehab or he would seek custody. She agreed but then ran off to the Bahamas with Howard K. Stern in order to have the child.
Larry Birkhead has the support of Anna Nicole Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, in his claim that he is the biological father of Anna Nicole Smith's daughter, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern.

The third answer has it right. He is a photographer who always said he was the father of the baby, long before she died, and before her son Daniel died. In fact, he and Anna were together for the first half of her pregnancy. Then Howard K. Stern got in the way, and Anna was suddenly saying that Larry Birkhead was not the father. But I still think that he is most likely the father of the baby girl.

Larry Birkhead is a freelance entertainment reporter & photographer, he is also the supposed father of Anna Nicole Smith's expected baby! The two have been seen together since 2004. As for Smith's baby,Dannielynn, Birkhead said: I'm not going to deny she's pregnant or that I'm the father.

He's an entertainment photog from Kentucky. He met Anna Nicole in Kentucky, at a Kentucky Derby party in 2003. He now lives in Burbank, CA.
I've heard no reports linking him to any other celeb but Anna Nicole, so I wouldn't label him the playboy type. I find an air of sincerity about him--unlike the other freaks lining up to claim paternity.

He is a freelance photographer. He seems respectable and tried to get Anna to stop taking the drugs and because of this she dumped him.
