Sometimes I see pictures or read about other parts of the world where people are starving, or living in war zones.....and here I am in the US, in a nice warm house, using the internet, driving to work, never going hungry.....I just think, that could be me. I feel very blessed.

Yes, simple matter of geographic location...that's what stuns me sometimes. Just because I was born here.
And to those who said, "Don't just think about it, do something." I do. I was emphasizing thankfulness, not trying to boast. But good point.

I think people in general always tend to focus on the negative. I know I get caught up in that trap. But when I take a step back and realize how fortunate I am I will realize that all I face are a few bumps in the road. So yes I am lucky and fortunate.

Yes, I do. When each of my daughter's took their first breath, when they kneel down and say their prayers at night and wake up smiling at me in the morning. When they giggle with joy. and When my husband steps off the plane from protecting our country or I get to hear his voice or see his face via the webcam and can see he is safe or when he is there to hold my hand at a memorial service for another fallen soldier. Those are the times I distinctly recall feeling most fortunate.

Yes I do and in a world where children are dying by the hundreds by starvation daily, our problem is obesity. Where families are homeless, we seek therapists to deal with our finances. Where children and women are being abused we are watching Jerry Springer for the entertainment. Crazy. Stop the madness!

Yes...every time I go to the grocery store. I look at everything around me and think...I can buy anything I see...and it's all bright and clean...and then I think about people I have seen on t.v. belly's distended from slow starvation...batting away flies from their tiny portions of gruel. I am reminded all the time to be grateful for what I have even though in America there are many who have much more than me. But I have enough...and to other people...my enough....is more than they would ever dare to dream of.

Yes but I also want to do all I can to help the less fortunate. I don't just want to sit around thinking about how comfortable and fortunate I am without doing something to help them out.

yeah. I do.

And what keeps me going through my own trials and tribulations, is those starving kids are happy still. I see them running, laughing, and finding emense joy in one red ball,
and the kids here throw a temper tantrum if they don't get a play station.
If a child or adult can STILL smile and think of their fortunes in a third world country,
then why can't I.

I am reminded daily of how blessed I am. I work with people who are less fortunate and forced to cope with numerous issues. It definitely humbles me on a daily basis and encourages me to assist them in any way I can to alleviate some of their distress.

i totally agree. we have so many things that we take for granted because were simply used to it. But it is truly a blessing to be alive, and not have as many worries as other people in the world do.
