Women in the United States at this point have won some equality in areas such as being able to vote, opportunity to join the military, opportunity to run for office including president, and opportunity to be an executive at some branches however for some reason they dont seem to be as eager to be included in selective service. Can you please give me reasons why they should or should not.

They should include women and exclude men.

That way I will never have to worry about being drafted.

Actually, I think that the idea of a draft is a violation of human rights, for men and women. However, if we are to have selective service, and possibly a draft, as a necessary evil, then I think women should be included. The only possible problem I can see would be if a couple who had children were both called up...who would take care of the children? In such a case, we would need a system where the couple would decide who stays behind, and they could file a petition. Otherwise, we would put ourselves in a position (as a nation) where war creates an entire generation of orphans dependent on the state. As for women seeming "eager" to be included...to be fair, how eager are men? Women ARE fighting for the right to serve on the front lines, which they currently cannot do, and it makes no sense that women would be included in the draft right now, when we can't serve in the capacity that the draft is intended for. Let's face it, the draft is not used to fill "service rolls", real training is needed for that, but to give the military extra "cannon fodder." Give women who are currently serving the right to serve in EVERY capacity, and the draft will follow.

Women should be allowed to join. However, at this time I don't believe we need a "draft". All males 18 had to sign up for military, but voluntary action has been successful.
Also, many of us aren't the liberal "we need everything just like men". I was happy to have a man open the door for me once in a while. We aren't as eager since we have the kids at home, and someone has to hold down home fort while we are activly serving!

**there is no draft**
they are not required to register with selective services. they should be included, but many would not qualify. (lots of men would not either, if there was a draft)
it has been contested several times, by men and women.

"The possibility of drafting women is revisited periodically as women’s role in the military evolves. Congress would have to legislate such a measure, but the SSS has the capability to execute such a mission should it be instructed to do so. "

Absolutely! Women enjoy the same social priveledges/rights as do men. We've the same amount of social autonomy. It's only jaded paternalistic bias that keeps our society from becoming totally androgynous. Capable women should also be placed in combat situations. (If you think otherwise, you're an ignorant. This isn't necessarily meant as an insult (although it eases my anger to assume that it has insulted some sexist people!)- it's just that, by buying into society's assertion that women should be protected by men, you're deluding yourself by idealizing the nature of sex. This makes you ignorant of the reality of human(wide) nature and individual capability.)

Absolutely we should be included. Other countries have it. And it is about time here in the US. I served in the military and see no reason why the draft should not include us women.

First off a draft is a horrible idea.

As for women, yea sure. Why not, they can fill a slot. The military would probably draft accordingly, meaning using women to help fill non-combat slots. Women should never be in combat jobs, like infantry of cavalry.

Yes, of course women should be subject to the draft! Every able bodied adult - male or female - should be eligible for conscription if it was reinstated. After all, you don't need a penis to fire a rifle!

Obviously. We're fighting for equality, not equality minus the parts we don't like.

Definitely not. Women don't belong in the military. Women are physically weaker than men--that's why the military has DIFFERENT standards for men and women. Plus women stand a huge chance of getting raped if captured by the enemy.

Equal opportunity to be killed? Haha.

I know we women out number men 3 to 1, but who's going to look after their children and keep the country running if we start drafting the women? Women could also defend the country while our men are at war.
