Placenta previa in early pregnancy is not uncommon. I had it and mine "moved up" by the time I was 16 weeks. I was also put on pelvic rest (no sex, no heavy lifting). Most cases resolve themselves.
It can cause a bit of a problem later in the pregnancy if the placenta has not moved up. If you still have this problem (and you most likely won't- I don't have the stats, but I remember the percentages were in the single digits), you may be put on bedrest.
If (late in the pregnancy) you are diagnosed with complete placenta previa (where the placenta completely covers the cervix) it will be highly unlikely you will be able to deliver vaginally and will have to have a c-section. However with partial placenta previa you can still deliver vaginally. My mother was diagnosed with partial and delivered my brother just fine. She even worked up until a week before she went into labor.
It's not life threatening and you and the baby are not in danger.

That is called placenta previa. It is a very dangerous thing. So to prevent problems the Dr. says no sex. I had this. I couldn't have sex for about 1month until he did another ultrasound and the placenta has moved. You are still very early and in most cases the placenta will move. If not, then you will be having a c-section. The problem is that if the placenta delivers first, then you and baby are in trouble. Read up about it, google it and you can see. But, if you take it easy and no sex, no strenuous exercises, I would ask for another ultrasound in another month and see if the placenta has moved. Then you can live the rest of your pregnancy in peace. Good luck.

I also had placenta previa. I was told all things you've said. They told me I'd have to go on bedrest and to expect bleeding. I was scared to death!!!!! My placenta was completely covering the cervix. My OB said that I would have to have a c-section 4 weeks before my due date because going into labor would be dangerous. They watched the placenta and the baby with many ultrasounds. I prayed, a lot. The placenta completely moved out of the way by week 28. I was able to avoid bedrest and having a c-section. My boy is now 2 and is perfect. Keep faith and know that the placenta can move and often does. Best of luck to you!

Truthfully placenta previa can be dangerous if you don't heed your doctors warning. DO NOT HAVE SEX!! That could cause you to start bleeding. Your baby shouldn't be in any danger and ask your doctor about all the questions and concerns you have. My best friend have her placenta covering the cervix. It never moved, but she was able to still have a healthy baby by c-section. Good luck to you and God bless.

Doc knows best...
My wife had a VERY low placenta also. It moved to a much higher position. I don't know if it was related but there was a scare when she bled quite a bit. Enough to appear like a miscarry. Doc said that the placenta had a fold that opened up and drained quite a bit of blood. Everything turned out great, wife and son are healthy.

there is risk of miscarrying in any pregnancy, the placenta could move upward or it could stay where it is. My cousin had a normal pregnancy with the placent covering her cervix but had to have a C-section to deliver the baby, you could be the same. Dont let it worry you, just relax and no sex.

Don't have sex, follow the other instructions and you will be fine. The placenta will likely move in time.
If not you will have a c-section before you go into labour.
You have a slightly higher chance of problems, but only slightly. Just relax.

It's called placenta previa.
Just follow his instructions and you should be fine. Most women's placenta moves as the uterus grows.
If it doesn't, there can be complications (if they don't know about it, but in your case they will), but it's really better for you not to worry about this now, as you have a long way to go!

A lot of pregnancies have a low lying placenta, all it means is that you want to keep irritation to the cervix at a minimum, thus no sex. Generally, if you follow your OB's instructions your risk of miscarriage are no higher than anyone elses.

If you were both in danger, he would have told you so. Sonographers/doctors do not keep secrets from future parents.
Just hold off on the sex, it's a small risk, but a risk nontheless.
your placenta probably will move...mine did!
